Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Known colloquially as the “vampire facelift”, PRP harnesses our natural ability to repair. Ageing skin, acne scars, hair loss and damage all respond to the gentle healing message of our own growth factors. PRP has been used for over 20 years to heal injuries, primarily in the world of Sports and Orthopaedics. The beneficial effects can be seen on ageing skin, skin quality and scars. Hair loss responds particularly well to PRP therapy. PRP treatment for hair loss is well documented in the scientific press. Hair transplants fare better when followed up by three to four PRP treatments.
PRP stands for “platelet rich plasma” and refers to the growth-factor-rich platelets that are found in our blood. By taking blood and then spinning it we concentrate the platelets, making the solution that we inject a powerful healing and regenerating but totally natural solution.
Blood is taken from the arm (just like a blood test) and then centrifuged for eight minutes. The resulting platelet rich plasma is taken from the tube and then injected into the face or scalp where necessary.
HOW DOES IT FEEL?
The face can be quite sensitive so we apply numbing cream beforehand. There can also be some bruising and swelling especially if the eye area has been treated, so please plan any treatment to give yourself a few days of recovery.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE THE TREATMENT?
The initial treatment course consists of three treatments, spaced four weeks apart. After that maintenance treatments every six or twelve months should maintain the results.
WHAT SORT OF RESULTS WILL I ACHIEVE?
Results are quite subtle. Improved skin quality, freshness and brightened complexion are what most people achieve. Because this is a natural therapy and we are using the bodies own platelets, we should aim to have healthy platelets. This means following a healthy diet, not smoking, avoiding the sun and not doing the treatment during a period of great stress.
