Three treatments are recommended, preferably three weeks apart. Each time the improvement is approximately 30% - so 30, 60 and 90% is achievable. Best results are achieved when a fat-free diet is followed for a day preceding the treatment and for the following four days. Whilst the ultrasound is liberating fat from the resistant fat stores, you need to burn the fat as energy. Think of it like a camel living off its fat. Exercise helps, too.
GENERALISED AREAS - ACCENT
The accent device is our most popular body treatment. It is designed not only to tighten lose skin but also to reduce generalised fat stores on the body. Whereas the Ultrashape device will remove larger, more defined areas, the Accent will help where there is just an additional unwelcome layer of fat. This is often associated with a decrease in skin tone, such that previously tight skin is now loose and flabby. This is nothing to do with weight gain, just age and hormone-related skin flaccidity. Very often pregnancy leaves us with flabby tummies; accent is perfect for this.
SKIN LAXITY AND FATTY AREAS
On the body we use a different treatment head with a different setting to deal with both flabby skin and skin laxity. The treatment energy is taken up by the fat cells and they become hot, rather like a mini sauna. Being hot is not comfortable for the fat cells and they use up their energy in trying to cool down. They call upon their own fat stores and therefore shrink. Normally fat cells on the lower part of the body re reluctant to give up their stored fat. This is primarily due to the female hormones, but also to ageing and perhaps the type of fat they we are eating. The value of the Accent is that the fat cells are specifically targeted.
Treatment with Accent feels hot, but not painful. It is not designed to hurt. The aim is to raise the temperature of the desired treatment area to about 40 deg C. This is constantly checked with a hand-held thermometer, and you will tell us if it's too hot.
Once we have delivered the energy to the area the treated area feels warm and will remain so for about half an hour.
Three treatments are recommended; one treatment every three weeks. Results start to show after about three weeks, although there is often a good response from the very beginning. The results continue to improve over the next three months, so that the final results will still be developing well after the treatment is over. Most people like to maintain the results with a treatment every three months.
SKIN LAXITY ALONE
If there is no fatty tissue, then we can simply use the same head that we use for treating the face, and achieve skin tightening without the need for fat reduction.
STRETCH MARKS
Stretch marks are just as they sound - areas of skin that has become stretched due to rapid growth or weight gain. The stretch marks develop in the opposite direction to the pull - tall girls often have horizontal stretch marks on their thighs, whilst chubbier ones have longitudinal stretch marks on the arms and legs. Equally pregnancy stretch marks develop according to where the weight was gained. We still do not understand why some people develop stretch marks and others do not. Under the microscope the stretch mark looks like a fine scar; so we treat it as such.
There are several treatments for stretch marks, often the best results are obtained when a combination of therapies are used.
Very wide stretch marks may never respond to our methods but narrower ones will. We tend to say that anything under 4mm should respond. It is always difficult to predict how many treatments will be needed; suffice to say that the finer the stretch marks the more chance of good results.
If the stretch marks are situated on a slightly fatty area it is recommended to treat the area with Accent as well as specifically targeting the stretch marks.
DERMAROLLER
Dermaroller is a great treatment for scars and stretch marks because it helps to break down the scar tissue and develop new, fresh collagen and elastin. There is a lot of collagen remodelling after dermaroller. As on the face, we apply plenty of anaesthetic cream before the treatment. The treated area will be red and tender to touch for 24 hours so you will need to choose soft, loose clothing for the day. Results will show after one month and continue to develop for three months.
For more information on the dermaroller please see the facial treatments section.
E-MATRIX
E-matrix is stronger and quicker than dermaroller but causes more skin disruption and takes longer to heal. However the results will be better. Again choose soft, loose clothing for the treatment.
For more information on the E-matrix please see the facial treatments section.
CARBOXYTHERAPY
Carboxytherapy is a long-standing technique that injects a tiny amount of carbon dioxide gas under the skin and the stretch mark. This encourages more blood supply to the area and also creates more collagen synthesis. The treatment feels like a tingling. After the treatment the area is red for about half an hour.
CELLULITE
FATTY DEPOSITS AND CELLULITE
Dr Elisabeth Dancey introduced the treatment of cellulite to the UK in 1993 and has since written the book, "The Cellulite Solution" and the video "Beautiful Legs". She oversaw the consumer trial of Roc's Body Contouring Concentrate and is constantly in contact with the beauty industry on the subject of cellulite. Five years ago she helped launch cycloid vibration therapy into the beauty industry.
Cellulite is a combination of fluid retention and fatty tissue; either of these may dominate the picture.
As we age, the cellulite areas also suffer from a decrease in skin laxity; we need to address this aspect as well as dealing with poor circulation, poor lymphatic drainage and excess fat storage.
We used to rely on Mesotherapy to treat cellulite, indeed Dr Dancey introduced Mesotherapy into the UK. Our experience at Bijoux is that modern light and energy based techniques work better, with no pain or downtime, and are far more acceptable to clients.
ACCENT FOR CELLULITE
We use the Accent device to improve circulation, decrease fatty stores and improve skin laxity - three treatments in one!!
BROKEN VEINS
Broken veins appear on the surface of the skin as visibly widened, contorted reddy-purple veins, often together as fan-like flares or knots. They are not necessarily associated with varicose veins. Varicose veins are bluish in colour and cannot be treated by our non-surgical methods.
Broken veins appear most frequently on the thighs, calves and ankles, particularly in women. They can also appear on the face - the cheeks and the nose - both in men and women and are difficult to conceal.
Veins on the legs can be weakened by prolonged standing, pregnancy, trauma or are just genetically weak. The pressure of blood in the veins causes them to swell and thus become large and visible. Once swollen they do not disappear and may continue to develop.
Sclerotherapy remains the treatment of choice for broken veins on the legs. A medical solution is injected into the swollen veins with the aid of a magnifying lamp. This "sticks" the inside of the veins together so that the veins is closed and blood can no longer flow through, thereby losing its vivid colour. After the treatment the area is a little red and swollen (bobbly, like a bee sting). The veins can look more pronounced for a short while but normally settle within three days - and suddenly seem to disappear.
Veins on the legs normally require three treatments, which may be spaced at two-weekly intervals. Once treated, they should remain at bay for between two and five years. However new veins may appear according to the individual and these need treatment as necessary, normally on a yearly basis.
SKIN TAGS, RED SPOTS, OTHER UNWANTED SMALL LESIONS
Our radiolase device has been taken straight out of the operating theatre and can remove small unwanted lesions such as skin tags, warts and red spots. The treated area goes a bit red and takes a few days to settle. Any larger lesions need to be checked with your GP prior to removal.
PAIN FREE HAIR REMOVAL
Hair removal used to hurt, and even now it is difficult to convince people that it doesn't!
We have the newest device on the market, the Soprano Blue XL. This differs from all other hair removal devices in that the laser shots are made whilst the treatment head is moving and cooling, so all you should feel is a mild tingling sensation. They describe this as "in motion cooling" and it transforms any hair removal treatment to a pleasant experience.
This technology also makes the device very safe, even in darker skin.
The energy of the laser light is picked up by the colour of the hair, so the best combination for hair removal is pale skin and dark hair. However, the in-motion technology allows darker skin types to be treated as well. Providing that the hair is darker than the skin we should be able to treat you.
The area to be treated should be shaved ready for treatment. A test patch is essential for your safety; this is carried out 48 hours prior to your treatment. We do not charge for test patches.
After the treatment the area will tingle a bit, but this quickly subsides. As for all laser treatments, we ask you to be at your base colour and avoid the sun during the treatment. Before treatment avoid fake tan (your skin must not have any colour), although you may use this afterwards.
We charge per treatment session, since even after the first treatment you will achieve a result. It is recommended that you complete the course to achieve the very best in permanent hair reduction.
Hair removal is for both men and women, and we can treat every area, so don't be shy to ask.
PERSPIRATION CONTROL
Perspiration, more often due to stress than overheating, can be controlled with BTX. Tiny doses injected just under the skin of the armpits will cause the sweat glands to stop working for up to eight months. BTX perspiration control is suitable for both men and women and is one of our most popular treatments. It provides total control in social and business situations and freedom from concern about sweating. Just look at the antiperspirant section in the supermarket to appreciate the scale of need.
