Bijoux SPA

Medi-spa means spa as well as medicine. In fact Bijoux is more of a mini-spa than a medi-spa!! Since we are healthcare practitioners we do care for your general health and we do want to make sure that first we do you no harm.

The outer surface of the skin, the dead cell layer (stratum corneum) acts as an impenetrable barrier. However, many products used in the cosmetic industry contain substances designed to overcome this barrier and allow or even enhance penetration. Enhanced absorption of active products is of value when we consider anti-ageing preparations, for example. We want our powerful products to enter the skin and exert their revitalising effects on the skin.

However, when we are performing a procedure where the product itself is not necessarily the active principal, such as a massage, we like to know exactly what is going beyond your skin. We prefer to select only the best ingredients and those that we know will have a positive effect on our bodies. We do not want preservatives, perfumes, emollients, wetting agents, silicones and so on entering our bodies through the large surface area of the skin. Even if we avoid the use of penetrating agents, we know that there is a small but significant passage of substances across the skin through the pores and hair follicles. Sometimes it is not even the agents themselves that enter, it is by products and impurities including pesticides that cannot be removed.

You may care about the health consequences of absorbing chemicals. We certainly do.
